SANT' ANDREA MONTEPULCIANO D'ABRUZZO 2013
100% Montepulciano aged in cement vats.
Cappella Sant'Andrea is a 30 hectare (75 acre) estate in the Tuscan Hills, one kilometer (.625 mile) outside the medieval city of San Gimignano. The history of San Gimignano goes back to the Etruscan period and, since the beginning, agriculture has always played an important role in the local economy.
The cellar was built by Giovanni Leoncini in the 90-s. Cappella Sant'Andrea employs modern vinification techniques, while respecting the traditions of the region. Vernaccia wine vinifies inside stainless steel vats at controlled temperatures. Red wines vinify in cement vats. The 6 hectares (15 acres) of vineyards are on hilly land. The soil with Pliocene origins is a mix of sand and clay and is full of fossils. The estate adheres to the requiremtents of organic cultivation. The grapes, of only the highest quality, are harvested by hand and are transported from the vineyard to the winery in small boxes of 20 kg.
